MIT OpenCourseWare Update: December 2005

A Monthly E-mail Newsletter for Users
and Friends of MIT OpenCourseWare
----------------------------------------------------------------

The December 2005 MIT OpenCourseWare Update Contains:

1. New Courses Now Available
----------------------------------------------------------------
MIT OpenCourseWare (MIT OCW) is pleased to announce the publication of six new courses as part of our Spring 2006 course publication cycle. We now offer open access to the educational materials from 1265 courses total, including the following new courses:

When looking at the complete MIT OCW Course List, look for the red NEW to indicate newly published materials. MIT OCW will publish 150 new, and 75 more updated courses, by the end of April 2006.

2. Email Newsletter User Survey
----------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you to the more than 2100 subscribers who completed our recent survey about the "MIT OpenCourseWare Update" email newsletter.

Of the 37,532 email newsletter subscribers who received the survey invitation, 2129 had completed it as of January 26, 2006. In a future issue of this email newsletter, we will provide subscribers with a complete report of the survey results, but thus far, here are several high-level findings:

  • 54% of email subscribers identify themselves as self-learners, 17% as students, 14% as educators, 4% as MIT alumni, and 11% as "other."
  • 46% of subscribers are from the United States or Canada, with more than 100 other countries represented.
  • 56% of users find links new courses to be the most useful content in the newsletter.
  • The overwhelming majority of users either agrees or strongly agrees that the design of the newsletter is clear and easy to use; and that the newsletter helps them access MIT OCW content more effectively.
  • 43% of subscribers have forwarded it to a friend at least once.

Once the MIT OCW team completes a full analysis of all the survey data, we will provide a report back to email newsletter subscribers and implement several subscriber-suggested changes to the newsletter to make it more useful.

Again, thanks to all who completed the survey! Your participation will be tremendously valuable as we evolve this newsletter to better suit the needs of our global network of subscribers.
