Four hour-long written tests each focus on two successive chapters of the textbook. The exam focuses on the following language skills: listening comprehension (dictation) and writing and reading (composition). These tasks include the appropriate use of vocabulary, grammar structures and the understanding of cultural themes and topics. There is no final written exam.

Eight vocabulary quizzes based on the two vocabulary lists for each chapter of the textbook. The quizzes emphazise the correct spelling and appropriate use of vocabulary in context in German. Students practice vocabulary using synonyms, antonyms, word associations, word families and semantic fields.
