Course Outline

綜述與缺乏水供給及缺乏衛生設備相關的疾病﹔水體衛生疾病﹔水傳染的疾病﹔和水相關的疾病﹔排泄物污染環境所帶來的疾病﹔水與衛生設備是人類衛生的基本需要。

Overview of diseases associated with poor water supplies and sanitation; waterwashed diseases, waterborne diseases, waterassociated diseases; diseases associated with fecal contamination of the environment; water and sanitation as a fundamental need for human health.

 
1 衛生設備
Sanitation
講課- 簡易方法以及所意想不到的困難﹔合適與不合適的方法﹔可行的例子像是通氣式公共廁所(VIP)﹔通氣管的好處﹔濕/乾窪坑的優點; 提升上層建築的簡易方法﹔螺旋的與長方形的佈局﹔門的建造﹔討論實際建造方法。

Lecture - Simple systems and their pitfalls(!); appropriate and inappropriate systems; examples that work, e.g. the Ventilated Improved Pit Latrine (VIP); the benefits of flue ventilation; the advantages of a wet/dry pit; simple methods of upgrading the superstructure; spiral vs. rectangular layout; door construction; discussion of practical construction methods.
2 衛生設備
Sanitation
講課 – 升級方法; 化糞池; 建造方法; 滲水坑的原理與建造方式; 水沖蹲式公共廁所; 維持水封的優點與花費。 升級通氣式公共廁所、水處理、小孔流出管, 大孔管、氧化槽、生態學原理、公共設施所引起的問題, 破裂與溢出。

Lecture - Upgraded systems; the septic tank, methods of construction; soakaway principles and construction; pourflush latrine; advantages and costs of maintaining the water seal. Upgrading the VIP, water disposal, small bore effluent pipes, large bore pipes, oxidation ponds, ecological principles, problems which arise from communal facilities, breaks and spillages.

Water Supply
講課 – 地下水的位置以及如何測量深度; 把地下水當做家庭用水來源的優點;簡單的抽水方法、水井與手動幫浦; 污染的問題及如何避免, 淺的水井, 幫浦的設計, 長處與缺點, 實際上的考量。

Lecture - The water table, where it exists and how to determine its depth; advantages of using the water table as a source of domestic water; simple methods of abstraction, wells and hand pumps; problems of contamination and how to avoid them; shallow wells, pump designs, strengths and weaknesses, practical considerations.

水從哪裡來? 地表水供給的問題與解決方法﹔如何建造農地小蓄水池﹔鑿井﹔泉水與地下水的保護﹔城市供水與衛生設備﹔水的販賣﹔ 屋頂排水系統

Where does water come from? Surface water supplies, problems and solutions; the small farm dam how to construct one; well drilling the von der Rigg; spring and groundwater protection; urban water supply and sanitation; water vending; roof catchment systems.

影片欣賞 – 供應水給多哥的一個村莊。 影片之後就是課堂討論,根據課堂上所學的資料提出建議如何改進並維持成果。 學員也會分成小組, 每個小組提出維持當地供水設備的策略。

Video - A study in the provision of water supply in a village in Togo. Following the video there will be a class discussion based upon the material presented with lessons learned and suggestions for an improved, sustainable outcome. The class will be broken into working groups that will each strategies for sustaining local water facilities.

講課 –迦納的都市問題。 問題介紹完之後接著討論, 對於衛生議題和如何改善系統,大家可以一起討論並提出可行的建議。

Lecture - The problem in Urban Ghana. There will be a discussion following the presentations and people will be expected to consider the issues and discuss likely suggestions as to health concerns and how the systems can be improved.

由有體驗過熱帶環境衛生議題的同學們來做介紹。 這些學生可以在這個學期所強調的議題之中加入個人經驗。這些重點將被用來強調公共衛生管理者在發展中國家所面對的問題及其整體重要性,同時也顯現這堂課提供的資料有實用的價值。

Presentations by members of the class that have had experienced issues of Tropical Public Health Presentations will be made by several students who can add personal experiences to issues addressed during the term. These points will be used to stress the overall importance of the problems facing Public Health Administrators in developing countries and demonstrate the practical value of the material presented during this course.
