This class serves as an introduction to planning for the students in the urban planning program. As an introductory class, it covers a good deal of material, which is clearly called out in the calendar, and in the in-depth set of readings. The lecture notes detail case studies covered in the class, from three different metropolitan areas.

课程为MCP第一学期的学生介绍了规划师面临持久的主题和挑战。课程的目标是：激发学生关于他们选择职业的兴趣。
This class introduces first semester MCP students to the persistent themes and challenges facing planners. The goals of this class are:
- to excite students about their chosen profession;
- 为规划师思考将采用的行动提供理论框架；
to offer a theoretical framework for thinking about the kinds of interventions that planners are expected to take;
- 向学生介绍规划领域里一些非常有趣和具有挑战性的理论争论；
to introduce students to some of the most interesting and challenging theoretical debates in the planning field; and
- 促使学生思考如何充分利用时间以保证他们的职业发展to press students to think about the best way of using their time to ensure their own personal professional development.
