GIVE to MIT OCW.

1. OpenCourseWare Consortium Portal Launched
----------------------------------------------------------------
An OpenCourseWare is a free and open digital publication of high quality educational materials, organized as courses. The OpenCourseWare Consortium is a collaboration of more than 100 higher education institutions and associated organizations from around the world creating a broad and deep body of open educational content using a shared model. The mission of the OpenCourseWare Consortium is to advance education and empower people worldwide through opencourseware.

To facilitate the growing global OpenCourseWare Movement, the OCW Consortium recently released a beta version of the OCW Consortium Portal Web site. At this site, users and educators can:

Subscribers to this email newsletter are receiving the first look at this Web site and we ask you to check it out and send us any thoughts or feedback you might have about the site's usability, design, and other thoughts. Your feedback will be most appreciated.

2. ATTENTION: Boston-Area Subscribers
----------------------------------------------------------------
The OpenCourseWare Consortium is working on a new project called myOCW. File storage, collaborative discussions, podcasts, and RSS feed subscriptions are among the tools that will be offered to foster a learning community based on open educational content and allow for a personalized OpenCourseWare experience. This project is in the development phase and is scheduled for usability testing on the MIT campus in July 2006.

The myOCW Development Team is looking for four people to spend approximately one hour testing the site in the MIT Usability Lab on July 27 during daytime hours. If you live in the Boston area and are interested in being a tester, please Chris Johnson at <cej@mit.edu> with the subject line "Usability Testing" and include the following information:

  • Your Name:
  • Location:
  • Role (Educator, Student, or Self-Learner):
  • How long have you been using OCW?
  • What is your primary field of interest at OCW?

We thank all volunteers in advance for their contribution to the growing OpenCourseWare Movement.

3. Your Gift Sustains OCW Long-Term
----------------------------------------------------------------
In offering free and open access to MIT courses, the MIT faculty are giving their educational materials to the world. But maintaining these courses, and evolving MIT OCW to meet the needs of our diverse user audience, has its costs. Thus, we depend on the generosity of users to sustain the MIT OCW project long term. We now offer a quick link to the Donating to MIT OCW section on every page on the MIT OCW Web site. Look for the following button at the top of every page:

GIVE to MIT OCW.

Hit this button, and you will find that giving your gift to MIT OCW is easy, and that the Giving to MIT Web site is a safe and secure way to financially support MIT OCW. MIT OCW will always be a free and open digital publication, however, your $50, $100, or $500 donation will enable us to continue to offer a high-quality publication of MIT's course materials.
